Q. I thought it was illegal to play copyright music. How can you do this?
A. We have a license with BMI (Broadcast Music Inc) out of Nashville, TN to play music on our webcast. We file every song quarterly and pay the fees yearly.

We get some support from a few sponsors. The majority of expenses have been covered by my personal funding. There have been donations from some for special projects which we do on the show. If you like what we do, we appreciate any donation you may make, and that will help us continue to provide many aspects of ham radio to our viewers.

Q. What are the legal restrictions on launching your pico balloons? Do you have to get a permit?
A. We fly under FAA 101 exemption which means that we follow a few simple rules such as payload weight has to be less than 6 pounds, the string has to have a breaking strength of less than 50 pounds, etc. Our tracker weighs in at about 1.5 grams which is about the weight of a U.S. penny. No permits or notifications are required .
